Do you love Halloween? I know you love Disney or you would be reading this! Have you ever wanted to celebrate Halloween at Disney? Well, Disney knows how to celebrate Halloween like none other. I am more excited than ever for this year’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, from the parades to the special fireworks I’ll go over all the details for Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party from the very basics all the way down to my tips and tricks.
What Is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?
Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a special ticketed event in the Magic Kingdom that happens on certain nights in September and October. Occasionally the very last couple days of August and maybe the first day of November as well. There are select rides open for guests to ride, a trick or treat trail and special meet and greets with characters that you don’t find every day at the parks. On nights that Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party is held guests can enter the park at any time. But for the party, you can enter at 4 p.m. so you can enter even before the party officially begins at 7 p.m.
When Is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party This Year?
Tickets go on sale for resort guests starting May 12th. For guests without resort stays booked tickets will be available starting May 18th. Halloween night tends to sell out very quickly.

What Is New To MNSSHP?
For those of you that are familiar with Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party (often referred to as MNSSHP) You might be interested in knowing what new things are being added to this years party.
In honor of Disney World 50th Anniversary guests attending MNSSHP will receive an exclusive Halloween-themed celebration commemorative print. In addition each guest will be given a reusable trick-or-treat bag. Also new this year will be several MNSSHP exclusive step-in photo opportunities.
You will be happy to know that everything you loved about MNSSHP is set to return also.

Tickets For Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party
Tickets for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party prices depend on what day you are visiting and range from $79 – $135 for adults and $74 – $130 for children 9 and under. The closer you get to Halloween, the more the tickets will be with Halloween being the most expensive.
On the night of your Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party, you will receive a wristband indicating that you are there and you have paid to be there for Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party.
You can get your wristband in one of two ways. If you’re in the Magic Kingdom and you haven’t left (by the way you don’t have to leave in order to attend the party that you’ve paid for) all you have to do is go to one of those wristband distribution centers that they have located around the Magic Kingdom. You scan your magic band that the ticket is linked to and then you’re set to go. They’ll give you a wristband and you’re set for the whole night.
If you’re coming to celebrate the spooky fun after 4 p.m. in the Magic Kingdom you just use your Magic Band the standard way it’s linked to your My Disney Experience account and they’ll give you a wristband right there near the entrance.
Along with your special wristband indicating that you’re there and you’ve paid to be at Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party the cast member will also give you a map of what’s going on all around the Magic Kingdom. Remember, even though you can get your wristband and enter the park before the party even begins at 4 p.m. it does not officially start until 7 p.m. at night.
Personally, I recommend getting there as early as you can. So be there right at 4 p.m. ready to go in, that way you can take advantage of all those small moments. Whether it’s taking pictures of those statues or getting a few magic shots. But most importantly getting the opportunity to wear your costume around get some extra pictures with characters, but I’ll get more into that.
What Special Activities Are Offered?
What should you prioritize when you’re at Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party? It really comes down to what you want to see and prioritize. I mean I have my personal favorites which I’m going to go over with you but I’m also going to list out all of the activities that were offered last year at Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party.
I’ll go over some of those major activities to see and experience at the party including:
- Special character meet-and-greets
- Super magical photos to be taken
- Mickey’s Boo To You Parade
- Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular
- All new fireworks show for 2019! (Replacing Hallowishes)
- Trick-or-treating around the Magic Kingdom
- The Cadaver Dans
- Super cool dance parties
Once the party officially begins at 7 p.m. many of the PhotoPass photographer spots will have something very special for Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party. There’s usually some kind of magic shot which I personally love. The photos have a tendency to change year after year. So keep an eye out here to see which photos are available where and figure out which ones you want to go to.
The current stage show is the Hocus Pocus Villains Spelltacular. The Hocus Pocus Villains Spelltacular is performed several times a night throughout the party. The Sanderson sisters meet in front of the castle to conjure up their special party potion but they need help from other villains to make their witch’s brew. Along the way you’ll see favorite characters like Oogie Boogie and Doctor Facilier. This is a great show and it definitely will keep you entertained the whole time.
Mickey’s Boo To You Parade is my personal favorite and one of the most must-see parts is when those Haunted Mansion gravediggers come around with their shovels and the sparks start flying. The parade usually takes place twice during the course of your party. You have the earlier one and the later one and the earlier one is always more crowded than the later one obviously, so keep that in mind. If you’re at the party it is a must-do.
As for the fireworks show I highly recommend you put these fireworks on your priority list during your party. They are spectacular and they only happen once during every party so you don’t want to miss them. Disney has finally decided to update Hallowishes into a new show at the party. This will take advantage of all the new technology installed for the Happily Ever After Fireworks show. This means we’ll get to see all of the great laser effects, lighting, and projections on Cinderella Castle, accompanied by a new fireworks display and story.
Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular
The updated show is called Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular. Jack Skellington will be our host during the fireworks along with his pet dog Zero. Jack and will tell the story of how anything can happen on Halloween night as we follow Mickey and the gang into a haunted house. This event has long needed an update to the fireworks since Disney definitely raised the bar with Happily Ever After.
During the night there are also performances from the Cadaver Dans which are actually the Dapper Dans who are dressed up to be like in the haunted mansion it’s really cool. They’re usually located near Frontierland. There is also a medley of dance parties, the Tomorrowland one is one of the most popular. You dance around with some great characters, they’ve got great Halloween music, and light show as well.
Is There Trick Or Treating At MNSSHP?
Trick-or-treating around Magic Kingdom is a lot of fun and due to our daughter being younger it’s probably been one of our favorite parts of this experience. A lot of the cast members really get into it. When you enter the park everyone is given a bag, but you can bring your own if you’d like to get more as well.
Some tips are if you go later in the night you can avoid lugging around heavy candy and can enjoy shorter lines, as well as benefit from Cast Members often being more generous with portions later in the night, and to allow you to do more important things earlier.
Trick-Or-Treat Trails
Trick or treat trails are back as well. Make sure you pick up your re-usable Halloween candy bag at the front to gather all your goodies. You can bring your own as well of course! Those bags can get quite full! Best of all candy is included in your ticket admission! The trick-or-treat trails will be marked on the guide map. You can grab one when entering the park.
Above is a sample of our stash from previous years. They really do hand out the good stuff! This years main sponsors are M&M’s, Skittles, and Snickers. You can expect to see many different popular brands though.
TIP– If you have food allergies be sure to stop by guest services to inquire about special treats for those with dietary restrictions. As the party gets closer be sure to check back and I will have a post up detailing safe options for guests with restrictions.
Which Characters Are Available For Special Meet and Greets?
Let’s start with those really special meet and greets. Now the first one that I’m going to go over is routinely the most popular meet and greet during the party. That’s Jack Skellington and
from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
They usually have their meet-and-greet right near the entrance of Liberty Square and the line can get so long, I’ve seen it as much as five hours. Sometimes cast members will have to cap it and say it’s closed at like 10:30 at night. That way no one else can stand in it for another hour and a half.
The Seven Dwarves is actually kind of a rare picture to get. Especially if you’re not at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party or at Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party. Last year I saw them at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party. The reason I did that instead of Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party is that they have their Christmas attire on and I really wanted to see them in that. It was really cool and I recommend doing that if you can.
For Jack and Sally or the Seven Dwarves I recommend getting in line early and I mean EARLY. Preferably before the party even starts you want to be in line. That way you don’t spend all your time waiting in line just to see them and don’t get to enjoy the party.
Next up is Jack Sparrow, he is a very popular meet and greet as well and is located right in front of Pirates of the Caribbean. I strongly suggest trying to catch his meet and greet because the interactions you get with him are almost unrivaled.

The characters that are available to meet and greet at Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party are usually pretty consistent. But every so often they will change and we will try to keep this guide as updated as possible.

It’s mainly the animatronics types of rides that close for the party. The following rides are open for you to enjoy with low wait times making it easy to ride your favorites over and over again!

Ride Overlays
The ride overlays are back as well. Pirates added in live actors, Mad Tea Party added in fun lights and music, and Space Mountain has a new spooky soundtrack. Monsters Inc is getting in on the action too. Remember they scare because they care! You never know who might pop in.
Are There Special Foods Available To Eat At MNSSHP?
The party always features special treats that you can only get during the special ticketed event. They will be marked on your guide map. They have some really cute desserts every year. The frozen apple cider from The Golden Oak Outpost was a big hit and perfect on a hot night.
At the Main Street Bakery enjoy the Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake – spiced apple cupcake with pecan crunch and buttercream, the Halloween Cinnamon Roll – cinnamon roll topped with icing and a chocolate spider web, the Pumpkin Cheesecake – topped with a chocolate Mickey Pumpkin, the gluten-friendly Pumpkin Cheesecake is sure to be a ghoulish delight with gluten-friendly vanilla pecan cake and caramel glaze.
Dessert Parties
They also have two options for dessert parties. I’ll list them here, but I strongly suggest you skip them altogether because it completely takes away from your time to do other one of a kind things.

MNSSHP Exclusive Event Merchandise
Every MNSSHP exclusive merchandise comes out and everything from special pins to t-shirts is on sale and available only during the party. You will not be able to purchase those items during a normal park day so if you see anything you like be sure to pick it up!
Dance Parties
You can’t have a party without a little dancing. You might have a little bit of that sugar rush to burn off. Fun upbeat music, lighting effects and even some of your favorite characters may make an appearance.
How Crowded Is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?
Over the years the event has gotten more and more popular. The first few nights as well as the closer you get to Halloween can be the busiest, however, it is always less crowded than a normal day at the park. Who Can Wear Costumes At MNSSHP?
Since we’re talking about the fun of wearing costumes Disney has some very strict rules about what adults and children can wear to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party. Some of those rules include not pretending to be an actual character and taking pictures with people. Taking pictures with friends is one thing, but if you’re pretending to be an actual character at Disney and you’re signing autographs. Clearly, that is not okay.
You also can’t have anything that even looks like a weapon. You can’t wear anything that’s offensive or inappropriate and you can’t act inappropriately when you’re in your costume either. To answer a common question yes, there are different rules for children and adults going to the Magic Kingdom in costume. The rules apply to those children 13 and younger and anyone 14 and older, so there are two separate groups of rules.
Now the general rules for adults are that you can never wear a face mask when you’re at the Magic Kingdom and you cannot have any dress or gowns that drag on the street in the magic kingdom. Is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Too Scary For Little Ones?
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is perfect for the entire family. It is meant to be a little spooky, it is a Halloween event, after all, however, there isn’t anything that’s meant to scare anyone. Children of all ages have fun going through the Trick or treat trail and meeting some awesome characters they can’t see any other time of the year.
Tips For Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party
I do have a few personal tips and tricks to Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party as well.
- No matter how tempting it might be to go on some of those rides that have low wait times I wouldn’t recommend doing that. Mostly, because you have very limited time when you’re at Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party. On that note, I also wouldn’t recommend getting dining reservations too close to the party either. You don’t want it to eat into your party time.
- For those of you who love sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, don’t forget they hand out a very special limited edition Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card during the party.
- There are some specialty treat options that you can get during the party including that very special spider cupcake or the spiced pumpkin cupcake and then there’s the candy corn flavored cotton candy.
Is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Worth It?
It is impossible to do it all when you go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Try as you might, there is just too much to see and experience. So just enjoy the time that you have there. Again it really depends on you and what you want to prioritize. Just remember your time is limited and valuable when you’re there. You have a limited amount of time during this party so make the most of it.
So now that you know all about Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party, just like with anything this is a matter of opinion as to what your family likes. I personally feel that this is something that you should do at least once. We enjoy going in the fall to Disney for our anniversary so we like to plan our trip to include a party date. If your family loves Halloween and the opportunity to meet some cool characters, then this is a must-do for sure!
