Disney Genie : Everything Confusing About It

disney genie

Welcome to 2021. The days of FastPass+ are gone. There is now a new service called Disney Genie which is free to all Disney park guests. Everyone can use the new system through the My Disney Experience app for Disney World and the Disneyland app for Disneyland this fall.

You’ll be asked about your preferences when you’re planning this trip, and it will create an itinerary that’s specifically just for you. However, there’s a lot more to it than that, and I’ll get into all of it. Pricing, Disney Genie+, my thoughts, and much more.

When Will Disney Genie Be Available?

There’s no clear timeline beyond “fall” for Disney Genie to be released. You never know when it will arrive at Walt Disney World, but there’s a very good chance it will happen by Oct. 1, which is the resort’s 50th anniversary.

How Do You Use Disney Genie?

Through the Genie, guests can check out attractions and pick the next available window to go back to a ride and skip some lines. Genie+ will let guests skip the lines on many attractions by choosing one ride at a time.

How Much Does Disney Genie Cost?

You can get Disney Genie+ at Walt Disney World Resort for $15 for each ticket, per day. The Lightning Lane entrances, formerly known as FastPass, are now branded “Lightning Lane” for most of the attractions.

What Is The Difference Between FastPass+ and Genie+?

FastPass+ was free reservations to have a shirter wait for your favorite rides. Genie plus is a pay-to-use system to be able to skip the long line.

What’s The Difference Between Genie and Genie+?

Guests can access Disney Genie directly through the free My Disney Experience app (or the Disneyland app in California) regardless of whether or not you are an annual pass holder or are staying at a resort. However, Disney Genie+ is a paid service and is the FastPass+ replacement.

How and When To Book Attractions?

Genie+ service can only be purchased via the app on the DAY OF your trip (starting at midnight), so you will have to wait until then if you would like to add service for SOME of your trip. Booking time for individual attractions will also be determined on the day of the trip (to be announced).

What Is Lightning Lane?

During select attractions, Disney offers a lightning-fast queue known as Lightning Lane. If you’re familiar with FastPass or FastPass+, Lightning Lane is just the new name for it.

Are There Any Disney Hotel Guest Benefits?

As reported by Blog Mickey, guests at Walt Disney World hotels have the option of purchasing Lightning Lane individual attraction choices as early as 7 am on the day of their visit. Guests from outside the Disney World resort must wait until the park opens. At present, Disneyland guests are not eligible for similar benefits.

How Does Disney Genie Work If You Are An Annual Passholder?

Disney Genie+ will be available for Disney World Annual Passholders and Magic Key holders at Disneyland on the date of Disney Genie’s launch. At this point, we do not know if Disney will give annual pass holders an option to add the Genie + service to their annual pass.

Are People Excited For Disney Genie?

Well, personally, I’m not excited about it one bit. While I won’t get into all of my personal reasons why, I will direct you to this article from WDW News Today, which kind of shows you the general consensus for most Disney Parks fans.

While I realize that the new Disney Genie+ is not a replacement for Disney FastPass+ for many, it’s all we’ve got for now. I also realize that Disney took a huge monetary hit last year due to the pandemic. So they have to make their money back somehow. I think this is what the fans have known was really coming all along.

Here are some of my favorite things to bring on my WDW Travels!

Thank you for reading this article. I hope you found it helpful as you plan your magical vacation. Here are some things that I used on my own magical trips and I hope you’ll also find them helpful as well.

These are affiliate links, so if you do decide to use any of them, I’ll earn a commission. But in all honesty, these are the exact items that I use and recommend to everyone, even my own family.

General Carry Items: These are probably some of the most important things that everyone should have with them at Disney World.

A Good Pair of Disney Sunglasses – (I use this cheap pair all the time)

Every Day Chapstick – (I always have this on me anyway)

Sunscreen – (This is my Every Day Carry Sunscreen Ladies)

Park Bag: I’ve seen lots of people go to Disney World and make the simple mistake of not coming prepared. You can pick up a nice Loungefly park bag like this one and save the day for your family.

A Good Pair Of Sandals: Ladies, there’s nothing like a good pair of sandals like these in the parks. That way when it rains and your feet get wet you aren’t stuck walking around in a wet pair of sneakers all day.

Portable Neck Fans: These are just the most amazing little invention that you NEED to have at least for the kiddos. They charge via USB and are highly recommended, especially if you are going in the summer heat. You can check them out over here on Amazon.

Planning Your Trip: I know that planning a trip can be a lot. If you want more help planning your next trip I 100% recommend using The Vacationeer as a travel agent. They go above and beyond for their clients and they are the only ones that I can say that I would trust to plan my family’s travel.
